Historical Buildings of Maidstone
This interactive map represents a pilot version of a comprehensive historical buildings database for Maidstone. The current iteration showcases a selection of significant structures dating from the 14th to 17th centuries, each with documented historical importance and architectural merit.
We are actively developing this resource and warmly welcome submissions of additional historical buildings, corrections to existing entries, or supplementary historical information. In future iterations, each map marker will link to dedicated pages containing detailed architectural descriptions, historical context, photographs, and archival materials.
Contributing to the Project
We welcome contributions from anyone with knowledge of Maidstone’s built heritage. If you have information about historical buildings not currently shown on the map, or additional details about those already included, please contact us.
Future developments will include:
- Comprehensive photographic documentation for each building
- Links to archival sources and historical records
- Detailed architectural descriptions and analysis
- Timeline visualizations showing the development of Maidstone’s built environment
- Integration with local heritage trails and walking routes
This pilot project has been developed using data from Pevsner’s Buildings of England series and local historical records. The geographic coordinates have been verified using modern mapping tools to ensure accuracy.
This is a pilot version. We actively encourage community participation to expand and enhance this historical resource.
Interactive Map
The map below displays all documented historical buildings in our current database. Hover over any marker to see the building name, and click for additional information including construction dates and historical notes. You can zoom and pan to explore different areas of Maidstone.
Clustered View
For areas with high concentrations of historical buildings, this clustered view groups nearby structures together. Click on any cluster to zoom in and reveal individual buildings. This visualization is particularly useful for understanding the density of historical architecture across different districts of Maidstone.
Enhanced Cartographic View
This enhanced version features custom historical markers in red to distinguish these heritage sites from modern buildings. The cleaner base map style reduces visual clutter, allowing the historical buildings to stand out more prominently. Additional navigation aids include a mini-map in the bottom left corner and a scale bar in the bottom right, providing better spatial context for researchers and visitors.
